iTunes App Store

The only things I don’t see from my list of guesses are:

  • Netflix queue app

and out of my throwaway suggestions:

  • my idea for using 2D barcodes to exchange contact info
  • Hitch Hiker’s Guide themed wikipedia

This is 1 Day before the official opening of the app store too..

Btw, if you don’t know, you can click here to go the App Store once you have iTunes 7.7 installed.

There are many, many Voice recorders, Tip calculators, and Todo list apps, varying in price from Free to $10. Why you would buy a $10 voice recorder when there are good free ones I don’t know.

Here are some free alternatives:

  • To Do simple todo list by Erica Sadun
  • Zenbe Lists todo list with ability to share with other iPhones or on iGoogle
  • VoiceNotes simple voice recorder
  • Jott for iPhone turns voice recording into text notes and lists, from the popular jott.com
  • Evernote client for the quite excellent Evernote.com. Does voice recording, text notes, as well as photo notes with indexing of text found in the photos
  • reQall - helps you quickly store voice or text notes, appointments and todo lists, and can remind you later in a variety of ways. See reQall.com. Seems similar to Evernote with an emphasis on reminding you of events
  • CheckPlease Tip calculator

iPhone apps

iPhone apps I expect to see within 2 minutes of the official drop date in June:

  • a tip calculator
  • a todo list
  • a pong/tetris/bejeweled clone
  • a blog posting app
  • an app to add stupid decals, like mustachios and hats, to photos of your friends. I think a “fail” stamp would also be necessary
  • a RSS reader (eh, google? can i expect a Google Reader app?)

Webapps that may be more useful/nicer with a custom app interface:

  • Netflix (queue manager plz!)
  • flickr
  • Twitter (i think Twitterific is on top of this already)
  • Tumblr? It’s already pretty nice in web form
  • Trading sites: goozex(video games), Lala(CDs)
  • Custom site search. I.e., an app that serves as a springboard for searching a wide variety of sites, just so you don’t have to load the entire homepage for the target site to initiate a search (wikipedia, imdb, netflix)

Some simple ideas I will fling out into the ether for anybody who wants to do the work:

  • soundboards: make prank calls and amuse or annoy your friends
  • a rotary phone dial interface for the iPhone
  • an app that uses 2D barcodes to let you exchange your contact info with another iPhone user. You take a photo of their barcode and decode it, and the app can generate your barcode which they can take a photo of.
  • a Hitch Hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy themed wikipedia interface, which says “Don’t Panic” when you launch it.

Please, oh you developers with free-time, don’t let me down.
