Bookmarklet: Search Netflix

cubicle17:

Yesterday I found myself in a familiar situation: I wanted to add a movie to my Netflix queue, but I didn’t want to navigate to the Netflix homepage, maybe have to log in to my Netflix account, search for the movie, add it to my queue, close the tab and try to remember what I was doing before the distraction.

The solution? A dead-simple bookmarklet that does the searching for me. Search Netflix submits any selected text as the search terms to Netflix. If there’s no text selected, you’ll be prompted for search terms. The search results popup in a new window so you can quickly add the movie to your queue, close the window, and get back to what you were doing. Like I said, dead-simple.

To install the bookmarklet, simply drag the ‘Search Netflix’ link below to your bookmark bar and name it whatever you like (If you’re reading this on Tumblr’s Dashboard, the bookmarklet below doesn’t show up as a link, so please click-through to the actual post if you’re interested in using it). Enjoy.

Search Netflix

If you find any problems with the bookmarklet, or have feature suggestions, please let me know.

Note: I am aware of some weirdness stemming from Netflix’s “feature” of auto-focusing on the search box when the search results load, but haven’t yet found a fix. Also, this bookmarklet should work fine on FF2+ and Safari3+, but it does not work on IE6. If you really want IE6 support, e-mail me and I’ll see what I can do.
